our first store in china is now open at wukang road 63, shanghai.
 
it’s a homecoming of sorts.

saskia dijkstra first traveled to hangzhou in 1994 and fell in love — not with the market but with the people. nearly three decades later, the team followed and fell in love, too. without those people, without the factories, without china, there would be no extreme cashmere.

designed once again with architect and designer hidde dijkstra, the store lets the bones of an old shanghainese house lead. its small rooms became an opportunity: each one has its own material, its own color, its own purpose. upstairs, the original wooden beams are painted but present, keeping the house’s history alive.

enter through a deep, glossy brown laundry room, where we’ll wash your cashmere for you, and you’ll walk six meters before you ever encounter a garment. textured plaster archways draw you through to the rooms beyond, with flashes of color just ahead.

then, everything turns pink. downstairs, blush carpet runs wall to wall in a fitting room that changes shape with curtains tracked across the ceiling, lit by vintage lamps from the puces de saint-ouen in paris. upstairs, angled mirrors make a prism of reflections, and bun chairs by perron for knoll sit in petal-pink velvet. custom rails by studio uku keep each family of styles together.

running the length of the shop floor is a courtyard slicked in shiny blue resin, like a hockney pool.

just as in amsterdam, st. moritz and new york city, our shanghai flagship is as much a home as it is a store.
